Buying on Amazon or signing up for a subscription

A number of websites, such as Amazon or HubSpot, require you to leave a credit card in your payment profile for them to automatically charge you for any future purchase.

For such websites you shall be using a multi-use card. This is a card that you load with a certain amount and that can be set to recur monthly or yearly.

BlueBean offers you two options: a budget card or a subscription card.

Budget cards are used for frequent purchases. They are ideal for sites like Amazon where you’d make ad-hoc purchases.

Subscription cards are on the other hand ideal for recurring purchasing at a set date. Think of subscriptions that are charged at a set date that does not change.

While budget cards have their balance available to use at any point of time, subscription cards’ balances are only available within the historical payment window of the subscription. They therefore offer more security but are unsuitable for ad-hoc charges.

What do I do when refueling my tank at a gas station?

While more and more gas stations accept tap to pay directly at the pump, many still don’t. In order to get your car filled you’ll need to walk to the cashier and pre-authorize the amount you need for fueling.

After refueling your car, you’ll collect the receipt right at the pump and if for some reason you don’t simply take a picture of the amount on the pump and use it as a receipt.

How do I book a stay at a hotel?

Buying hotel stays varies as much as there are sites from where you can buy these from. But to simplify you’ll have in general two options: pre-pay or pay at the hotel.

If you pre-pay your hotel in full, simply request a one time card for the payment.

If you know that you may have to pay taxes and other incidentals as you check in, use a mobile budget card instead which you can load in your wallet and use alongside your BlueBean mobile app.

If you decide to pay at the property, the hotel will typically take a pre-authorization of your payment and then use the same card to finalize the purchase. For these instances you are recommended to use a budget card that you will also make mobile available.

With such a card you’ll be pre-authorized but you’ll be able to pre-set the card in your BlueBean app that you’d have loaded in your wallet and just clear the charge at the hotel.

If you end up requiring more balance because you have used room service or other services from the hotel, make sure to request a top up in line with your company policy before you leave the hotel to avoid any decline for lack of funding.

What happens when tap to pay is not accepted?

While fewer establishments lack tap to pay capabilities, they still exist and you should not be stranded. Users with mobile enabled cards will always be able to access the card details in their profile. Secured by password, retrieving the card details will now make it possible for the merchant to simply punch the card details in the terminal and complete the purchase.

Can I share a virtual card?

Despite their ephemeral nature, even virtual cards are individually issued. And as such they should not be shared between employees. Whatever the type of card you use, make sure the person that buys the service is the one that possesses the card.

What happens when an employee leaves the company?

When employees leave the company it is imperative to close any open cards they may have in use. Best practices recommend that a transfer of access to services using cards gets done prior or right after shutting down the cards so the person who now inherits the service gets to update the primary card to his or her own.
